Cost of Living in Okinawa

By Japan Travel - Posted on 20 January 2008

I've been in Okinawa for over a month and it is a lot cheaper than I had expected.

Cost of Food in Okinawa

This is an example of a meal that I had at a cafeteria-style restaurant in Naha, Okinawa that cost me about USD $4, including the udon noodles:

This tasty udon was about $2:

Cost of Cheap Accommodation in Okinawa

Okinawan guest houses or dormitories (hostels) cost between 1,000 and 2,000 yen per night. 1,500 yen per night is average. A typical weekly-rate is 10,000 yen for a dorm bed. The accommodation is comfortable and clean.

More information about the cost of living and travel in Okinawa coming soon.

I had no idea that U.S. tourists in Japan could really make their dollars stretch! Don't know if I ever will be able to visit, but I certainly do hope that the prices will stay like this forever! 10,000 yen a week, or around $95 dollars! 1,000 to 1,500 yen a night, or around $17 dollars! And not to mention comfortable and clean for all the above! Arigato!!!
