The Mount Yaedake sakura festival in Okinawa, is just one of the many sakura festivals in Japan. An interesting sakura fact is that though the sakura bloom in Japan from south to north, on Okinawa island, the bloom from north to south. The sakura on Okinawa are a different variety than the ones in most of Japan...

The time difference is also quite different due to the temperature difference. Mainland Japan sakura bloom much later (late march or early april) compared to Okinawa.
